    IE 6 being real slow

IE 6 is being really slow after the second page load. My online start page comes up fine ( cached ) and the first page I go to pops up pretty quick. I'm on 800up/800dn cable. No problem with ftp, ssh, telnet etc. but my browsers IE6 ver. 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.0304422-1633 and Mozilla 1.2b will grind to a halt trying to surf the web.

    I have today run

housecall.trendmicro.com (found a trojan in file C:\program files\wmp.exe) del'd file and search reg. for the .cfg that housecall asked to remove (wasn't found).

Spybot updated today..only found 2 tracking cookies (removed)

I cannot even go to windrivers in windows. I am in my VMWARE Linux to post this. other sites such as radioshack.com, walmart.com, boscovs.com also fail to load although I can get to an internal link if I send it via email or messenger to the problem machine.

I thought it maybe hardware/cabling related but my Linux is working fine as is ftp ssh in windows etc.

I searched for my HOSTS file and checked it it looks ok.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated

    Peace,

    --Dan

In IE they were set to automatic detect.

Although you mentioning proxy had me think... One day about 2-3 weeks ago I installed Steganos internet a proxy software...I didn't like it ..too slow and turned it off after playing with it for 20 mins or so. So I thought. It wasn't running as a process, and I didn't notice a degradtion in IE right away. But upon uninstalling it and rebooting. TADAA

Thank you again NooNoo you are truly a Goddess

Even automatic detect can be evil... it goes off looking for the isp proxy....

    But thanks!
