Monitor Mod... Has anyone painted the Outside?

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever painted the outside case of a monitor. I have a perfectly of good 17" monitor that has the off white outside, but the rest of my computer and components is black. It would just be nice to have it match.

It is fairly easy to do. Vinyl dye is your friend (Krylon Fusion is easy to find). It is very forgiving and will generally leave any detailing visible. Be very careful though. You have to remove the back cover of the monitor, then mask off and paint the rest of the monitor as is, paper bags and duct tape help here. Be extremely careful taking apart and masking off the monitor, touching the wrong thing in a monitor can leave with a mild case of death.

    ROFL!

Couldn't you just remove the entire monitor casing prior to painting?

I did come across a mod posted the other day where the monitor has been disassembled and painted using the above paint the reassembled result looked very good.
The advice was NOT to remove the internal high voltage lead [cup] on the monitor tube whan painting the front bezel.

I've painted many monitors as well as regular TV's and found that it actually easier to paint with the front bezel removed. What I use is a pair of thick rubber gloves (like the type for staining and chemical work) to insulate my hands just in case. They come out much better with no masking or overspray to worry about.

    Hi there,

Why not buy a black colored monitor? Like what I did.

Hmm, $100+ replacement monitor or $6 worth of vinyl dye?
