Win ME restart and shut down problem
i'm working on a HP running Win ME that has a wierd shut down/restart problem. click on start, shut down (or restart) and click ok the computer just returns to the desktop. if you click on start and shut down a 2nd time it shuts down or restarts like normal. all windows updates and new drivers are installed. i've also ran a AV and spybot. what am i missing?

As you know Budd, with all 9x incantations, shut down problems could be so many things. The best approach is systematic starting with this KB article:

i have that same problem with 3 dell machines at work, are you running novell on that machine? it seems to me to be some sort of network problem, like the first time it exits novell and the second it actually shuts down or restarts
