windows xp printer problem
On a customers laptop every time he reboots his computer the found new hard ware wizard pops up and detects a new printer. No matter what driver you try to give it it still pops up every re boot, he has a hp photosmart 1215 hooked up and it works no problem ( on usb ). even if the printer is unplugged it still does it, i have disabled the parallel port in the bios and it continues to do so, the laptop is a Fijitsu Lifebook C series, i didnt see anything odd in the start up folder and he is using windows xp pro. not that it matters but the laptop is a p4 ~1.6, 512mb ram, cdrw/dvd
any ideas? possible a reg. entry or windows update issue?

The other printer is fully installed, all components are there and it keeps just poping up as new printer found and tries to install it, doest put a name beside it, just new printer and if you go next, next, next, and the box is checked to not remind me again, it does nothing and when you restart it comes back

This usually means the printer was installed incorrectly the first time and is trying to recover - and can't. The best way to fix this is to uninstall the drivers if possible, go into Device Manager and show hidden devices, then remove any and all the printers shown there as well as any problem or disabled devices.

You might want to read up on Installing the Printer Driver Version 3.4.13. It has instructions for removing the old drivers and then installing the updated ones.
NOTE: Please leave the printer disconnected while installing the printer software.
Also, Driver Does not Install in Windows 98, Millennium (Me), 2000, or XP When Using Norton SystemWorks.
