    PC Boot Up (or not!)

Not sure where to post this but here goes! Got a Dell optiplex that was working fine til last week. Got in this morning, turn on, but power light is constantly flashing orange instead of solid green. Have checked the cabling and everything fine, am assuming it's the PSU which has gone but just wondered if anyone has any other ideas?

    Dell Engineer here :-)

Optiplex, flashing amber LED. Either psu/mobo or cpu.

70% of flashing led's is either the psu/mob combination or cpu. If the machine is under warranty, phone it in. You'll be asked to do the normal diags IE remove RAM, do you get beeps, remove any cards etc. Then they'll decide on a course of action.

If it's out of warranty, you could try Ebay for a mobo/psu, remeber they are proprietry from Dell so are expensive. It might be more economic to get a replacement machine.

Ahh, well that's a lot of help. Either, or? Or get a new PC? There are PSU testers on the market, btw. And, Dell PSU's are not so "proprietary" anymore. You don't have to get them from Dell! If it is CPU, get a new CPU. If it is MB, get or build a new PC that ISN"T proprietary. Just my "cents".

    Dead PSu usually no flash

Id vote on bad mobo ...

you could try exchanging the ram or vid card before you throw the mobo away though
