    registry cleaning

What I'd like to do is to remove all those entries listed under the Start Up tab which is under msconfig. I've uninstalled a few programs but their listings remain. Also, I'm seeking a simple utility that'll help me remove entries from the registry that are no longer installed on my hard drive. Does anyone have any suggestions that won't cause any issues with XP? Thanks.

I tend to use two reg cleaners and then use Norton Utils or System Mechanic to check they havent messed up my PC. They are listed below.

    or

Watch with regseeker though. It can be naughty occasionally and delete stuff you dont want it to. Regcleaner on the other hand does a good job as far as I can see.

    Have fun

What I'm trying to do is remove the entries under the Start Up tab listed under msconfig.exe. I've tried a number of reg cleaners and actually went into the registry but found nothing. Also, I have a file in the Add/Remove Programs list that I've uninstalled and pulle from the registry but it's name is still listed.
I wanna clean out whatever isn't necessary. Spring is coming so it's time to clean house.

I'd wondered about those "extra" bits in the startup of msconfig. Have to say that they've never particularly bothered me, however I have an idea. Why not tick all the boxes in msconfig so that all the startup items are enabled (don't know what'll happen with the uninstalled progs)? Restart as it asks and then open up Spybot. Use its startup tool to delete the entries you don't want one by one and then they definately won't appear in the list. If that doesn't work, why not try searching for some of the info that appears in msconfig in the registry? Bound to appear somewhere.

Haven't personally tried any of the above you understand. Just a wild idea.

Not a bad thought. I was wondering if there's a search option in the tool "regedit." I see there's aprogram called WinTasks that looks promising.

Aye you can search in regedit. Open up the program, go to the edit menu and select find. Enter what you fancy in there. Backup the old beast before deleting anything though. I'd be interested to know if what I suggested previously works out or not!

No sense in getting another application when you can do it with what M$ gives you.

You have a good point. With time, I've learned that Windows likes everything done within itself. 3rd party applications sometimes do more harm than good.
When I get off duty & back home, then I'll give your idea a go. Thank you kindly.
