Flabooble!
Not a lot you can do to get it to just "work" with personnal firewalls as they are supposed to grab any files atempting to access the network/internet.
You can make it a little more friendly to corporate firewalls by using more common ports that are assigned to the specific app type (like 21 for ftp and not 6969 just to be funny).

Its called (this is the first time I type on my new keyboard , anyway) Auction Auto Bidder, it allows you to add eBay auctions to just watch, bid now, or set the program to automaticaly bid just seconds before the auction end which greatly increases your chances of winning and at the same time keeps the price down by preventing "bid wars". You can also change your mind about the bid up to the last minute because it isnt sent to ebay until then.
It also works as a fully function web browser so you can browse auctions or any website while monitoring your auctions in the list, and it wil lautomatically sign into ebay for you whenever eBay requests you to sign in.

Wow. That sounds like a really nice program for those of us who sell things on eBay.

I do sell a lot on ebay and will add seller features in a future version to list items for sale more easily and track your sales/profits.
It still wont make a big difference in the end price, it'll still sell to the highest bidder, plus bids of the same amount placed first have priority, but it does prevent bid wars against you and another bidder (when 2 people constantly outbid each other causing the price to skyrocket).

How can you prevent a bid war when people can just offer a particular sum up front?
Like that presently $10 chip is worth $50 to me and I bid $50, the price then changes to $11 and holds on me until someone goes above $50. You can't prevent others from bidding on the items you want.

No, it doesnt prevent anyone from bidding, but say you want a keyboard thats currently at $50 and you want to bid up to $80, if you bid $60 right away, someone would go bid $65 for example, then you'd bid $70, then he bids $75, then you bid $80, then he outsbids your maximum bid. With my program, you enter $80 in the program, so no one has any idea youre gonna place a bid at the last second so they might think theyre gonna win it, but 5 seconds before the end my program places the $80 bid.
Of course if someone else had bid more than $80 they would get it, but it still increases your chances of winning by making people think they are the highest bidder, but seconds before the end, the program will place my bid.

It's called sniping. Since the connection is automatic it can react faster than someone keying in. Net result, professional buyers get a good price.

Hi, I'm bringing this thread back to life because I now have 1196 users of my program and now at least daily get a few users saying it can't connect, I ask those users if they have Norton and sure enough all of them say Yes, I all ask them to try my program with Norton disabled and sure enough it works.
Is there anything at all I can do in my program to make it work even with people that unfortunately paid for Norton when they could have gotten a free and better firewall and AV?
My program only uses http and https ports (80 and 443 if I remember right), these are commonly used ports and I really don't understand how come my software gets blocked.
I'd really like to have a fix for this, do you think it's possible I can fix it or is it really only Norton that can fix this?
In the worst case, I'll make the program auto detect the Norton firewall and inform the user that if the program can't connect that it's most likely Norton and will provide download links to Zone Alarm and AVG anti virus. At least I wont have to email every Norton user that buys my program.
Thanks

My program also uses the MSInet control to connect if that matters.

This is just a random thought,.. but have you tried contacting the support group at Symantec to see if they can advise you? Or if they can't, then maybe they can escalate it to someone who can. Just call them, explain that this software you are selling is not compatible with NIS and you are looking for a way to make it compatible. The worst they can do is say they don't know.
Another option,.. try finding a discussion group on the web that deals with the same programming language you are using and see if they can advise. Odds are they are more experienced with this sort of thing than an IT tech or Network Admin would be (which is what most of the people here are I think).

How's this for an email to Norton?
Hi, I sell a program that uses the Internet and the Norton firewall in Norton internet security prevents my program from connecting to the internet. No other firewalls cause this problem and the program only uses the http and https ports.
So far I have told the users to switch to the free AVG anti virus and Zone Alarm firewall which are both free and both much better than your products, I have had to get a few hundred users to stop using Norton because of this bug in your firewall, I suggest you get a technician/programmer to contact me so you can fix this bug, otherwise I will keep making my users switch to other products which will end up costing you thousands in lost sales.

That's pretty good. If you don't hear back from them, try giving them a phone call.
EDIT:
Actually nevermind the phone call. That's not a 800 number so it's gonna cost a fortune to call. Plus I noticed they only offer tech support over the phone if you pay for it (which is pretty crappy imo). Maybe you're better off to just keep telling them to not use Norton cuz it sucks. I used to use NIS and I threw it out. It bogs down my system and does way more than I wanted it to do. Now I just use the basic firewall that comes with XP.
