SP2 Preview now available from MS
Yeap, MS have let loose the RC1 Preview of SP2 for those who fancy having a look at it before general release.
It is available as a Network Install with a d/l of 273MB (so dial-up users need not apply unless they have a lot of time on their hands ).
I am currently downloading it at the moment, but if the features that it implements are as good as the current features in the Longhorn releases, it shouldn't cause any issues to most of us.
If you want to try it, it is supplied by MS 'as is' with no support on it, so it is at users own risk.
You can download it from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...p2preview.mspx
Have fun.

New functions=new bugs that will have to be patched immediately. I would wait until the first security update cycle after the SP2 release...

After installing it, Auo Update runs & there is 4 new security updates already for it, which shows that MS are on the case.
Looks to be OK though at the moment, but only time will tell.

Any idea when this might be coming out?
Also a few questions: will this also add more security and such to wireless internet connections, will it help improve performance on laptops, and will it not suck? (the last one is a rhetorical question...)

It does seem to have added Security functionality. I'm using the "upgraded" firewall program and it seems to be doing a good job.
I've been running it for two days without any issues. ...so far.

Anyone else risked an intergrated installation? Mine seem to be running fine, only thing so far, is that my Anti Virus software is not recognised by Microsoft, as it is not on the recommended list, but that is not a problem.

Been using the Beta on my home PC now for 3 weeks. Good stuff.
My PC was slightly buggy before the installation and actually CRASHED during the SP2 update. I thought "That's it - complete OD reload this weekend...", but no - everything went fine as the update continued right after logging back into WinXp as if nothing had happened. The same thing occured after the second crash too.
I'm impressed with the update process itself.
The only "bugs" I encountered at first were error messages re: LiveUpdate which disappeared after a reboot and the fact that Kerio Personal Firewall was not recognized. I just indicated that WinXP should overlook that and let me handle things anyhow.
Another thing which occured was the use of the MS OfficeXP Clipart Gallery, which ceased to function after the SP2 Beta update. After looking around a bit, I was able to fix this by installing the latest version of MDAC. Reinstalling Office had no effect on this.
So far, so good.
