Lightbulb Alaris Cougar 486BL Motherboard

Ok, don't laugh, but I just got my old 486 running, and it's not that bad, but I need to update the Bios for this board: (Alaris Cougar 486BL Motherboard) It's from about 1993. I've looked around but can't find anything. So anyone out there PLEASE help me out. It would be so cool to get this system running 100%

hate to say this but i don`t think that you can flash the bios for this old boardthe only way i know to do it is to use an eeprom burner and change what`s in the bios yourself,or maybe buy a new bios for it,good luck, clauded

Have to agree with Clauded...only few 486 old motherboards I have ever seen had flash IC as BIOS (mostly from ASUS or another well-known manufacturer). Look at top cover of BIOS chip. If there is small transparent window (covered by BIOS logo sticker),- it definately isn't flash IC... It's Ultra-Violet erasable chip, what can be erased using special lamp, and then programmed using stand-alone programmer.

For that age of motherboard, you might be able to get a BIOS chip from Unicore software (might be a little pricey, DON"T let them talk you into any software) or an ISA BIOS update card (I have one of these laying around extra). The Bios card might take a little searching to find, all present BIOS's are more than Y2K compliant.
I'd offer to send you the extra card I have, but sending it from Michigan to Canada might be a little sticky. If you know different, the offer is open.
Hope this helps.

with most 486 motherboards wich chipset do you have if its a vlb motherboard without any onboad controllers, you can usually wap in a nother manufacturers bios chip
like most 486 s didnt have flash programmamble chips , some did usually started around 94-95 and they where like exxtincted in like 96,
try going to www.wimsbios.com for more info on these old motherboards,
can you tell me what chipset is on the mother board, like sis, or umc 491/498 or opti
just curious thanxz i would love to help but with little info its tough , c-ya
