    Question new MB ?

My daughter's computer bit the dust last week. It had a pcchips MB---- an m805lr. The computer was aging anyway but I could see the bulging capacitors and the thing would stink when you turned it on. I thought maybe I could just get a new MB and reinstall the processor memory etc. I bought an ECS k7vta3 45 usd from new egg. My problem is that I can't get a beep out of this new board! I can even pull the memory out and still no beeps! The fans spin etc. but nothin else. Is this a sign that the board is bad?
HP Laptop 6830s with 4 Gbs ram and a 250gb HDD I run Vista business 64bit. But I have some old computers too.

Tonight I'll try to build it out of the case. If that doesn't work. I think the board must be bad!?

I would suggest getting your money back and getting a real motherboard that wasnt pcchips at all. ECS is just another flavor of pcchips

Did you get a chance to build the system with the mobo out of the case? It's possible that you have a short somewhere (e.g. one of the case screws might be shorting out the mobo). If you can build it out of the case on a wooden board (a chopping board is ideal ) then that would tell you if the board is ok.

Otherwise sounds like a dead board

Yes I had an old duron processor that I putin. Also tried an old banshee video card, and only one stick of memory at a time. Still nothing. Even if the cpu were bad wouldn't the fans still run?

In any case I rma'ed the board and bought an asus terminator barebones system from newegg for127 =10 shipping all usd. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...tby=14&order=1 This is the link to see it
