    Post Lock ups

    Hi,

I just put a new computer together last week and everything works fine, except that when I play any type of video file my computer will randomly lock up sometime during playback. I don't know for sure if it happens with many of my games or not since I've only tried Quake 3 so far and that worked fine, played for a couple hours w/ no problems.

My system is a T-bird 850mhz, Abit kt7a mobo, 256megs ram, 3d prophet II MX 32mb dual display vid card. Running Win98se

I've already tried things like installing the latest drivers for video and sound cards, trying different video players, and some other stuff but nothing has helped so far. It doesn't always lock up in the same places everytime. Sometimes it locks up in the first minute, other times it locks up after 5-10 minutes, but it usually happens somewhere around 3-4 minutes of playing.

Anyone have any idea as to why this is happening? It's really annoying me, everytime it happens I have to hit reset, ctl-alt-del wont do anything.

Turn off AGP4X if enabled in the BIOS.

I got the same prob. I'll be playing a game and then it will just hang, and I have to hit the reset button.

I have AGP 2X enabled as well.

    I'm running:

    Celeron 366
    64 Meg Ram
    TNT2 M64
PC partner mobo: has a VIA chip on board
    Win98 (first edition)

I think my problem would be more related to the one you've got rather than the original poster of this subject.

I also experience random, yet frequent system lockups.

    Running: AMD T-Bird 850 MHz
    128 MB RAM
    Matsonic MS8127C w/VIA Apollo Kt133
ATI Rage 128 AGP, Xpert 2000

Contacted graphics card manufacturers.. they say VIA is shady.

I've had the same problems with my computer (900 athlon thunderbird with a sblive card). there is a known conflict with the card and via motherboards. I'm curious if that's the sound card your using, or at least a Via chipset motherboard! If so, go to viahardware.com for help
