Destroy Data
We have a bunch of ancient optical disks (kinda like CD's encased in their own cartridge) that we need to get rid of. The problem is they may contain a bunch of client info, Social Security Numbers, addresses, etc. and with all the identity theft going on I don't want to just toss them in the dumpster.
Any ideas for companies that offer data destruction services or am I better off with a "Sledge-O-Matic" of my own?

Pull!
If it's optical break it up. No sense paying for it to be done. Also there was Noo's "Mystery Machine" posted int he loung a while back that does the same thing.

Good one! I use the microwave method myself. It looks cool but after frying about 10 or so the novelty wears off.

here's one similar to the one NooNoo posted a while back.
you might have to *ahem* "disassemble" them a little bit to get to the disc inside the cartridge.
Mmmmmmm, Shredderiiiiiiific....

Agricultural shredder. Get a decent one and you won't even have to take them out of the PC first

cool. I've been looking for a shredder that can chew up hard drives to sell to the airforce base here. This may just do the trick.

CD's get few nice scratches on the layer side. Hard drives and tapes meet the 25-ton hydraulic press. Too bad I don't have any pic handy...
