    Installing Win 98

I have a problem installing Win 98 on my PC. It is a Dell GX110 Pentium 3 800ghz. I put the Win 98 boot disk and after its done doing everything I typed-
    d:\win 98\setup.exe d: - being my cd rom drive
I previously installed Win 98, it did work. i think the guy where i bought the computer typed in a code when telling me all i have to do is type d:\win 98\setup.exe and follow Windows step by step.

Also if any one could help me find drivers for GX110 it would be greatly appreciated.

leave out the win 98 part
when you get the A prompt, type D:
when you get the D prompt type in setup.exe

here you go and welcome to Windrivers sav22!

If you are using a win98 bootdiskette, it installs tools on a virtual drive called d: if you have only a c: drive normally. This means that the cdrom drive has become E:. Follow geoscomps advice, substituting E for D.

you need a bootdiskette that will run the cdrom and start the windows setup for you. Click the link I just gave and click on Windows 98 SE OEM | Alt - download the file.

When you have downloaded it to a directory you can find again - put a floppy diskette into your floppy drive, and double click the file you downloaded. This will make a boot diskette for you. DO NOT copy or save the downloaded file to the floppy drive. The file you are downloading creates the floppy diskette when it is double clicked.

    I'm sorry I don't follow ?

Having created the boot diskette, you put it in the machine that you wish to load windows on to. It will load up the cdrom drivers etc and then should offer you a menu like 1) start windows setup, 2) start computer with cdrom support 3) start windows without cdrom support.

    Obviously you want option 1.

Get windows on it first, then we can look at which drivers you need from the dell site.

That's another problem I was having. I took a look at device manger it never said any names of the hardware and I even downloaded driver kits that should tell me which drivers i need for the internet, but when installed it never worked. After I did that there was some probelms occuring so I formated Win 98. Now when I try to reinstall Win 98 it does not work cauz I need the boot disks like you said and.
I have to wait to tell u if the boot disk works cauz for God knows why on my new computer does not have a floopy drive so I can't put it on floopy right now, so I'm gonna go to my friends house to do it.

I had noticed that you indicated that you were told to type: d:\win 98\setup.exe d: from the guy you bought the computer. However, DOS does not recognize spaces in path names. Geoscomp's suggestion should work unless you have some sort of "special" Windows CD and not an original. The boot disk that is created by Windows 98 does have an ATAPI (CD-ROM) driver for DOS already on it. If your still having problems try typing: d:\win98\setup.exe as you were told to do by the guy would sold you the computer, you can leave off that "d:" at the end. Good Luck.
