    61833 Data Invalid

Hey guys, I have a serious problem with my JVC Digital Video Camera GR-DVM75. I can't seem to get my computer to detect the camcorder. My firewire card installed with no problems, but when I turn on my camcorder, i get an exclamation that shows up "unknown 61833 device"...and it says "data invalid". I am currently running Windows XP Pro......The funny thing is, it worked a long time ago, and now, when I decided to edit some videos, the camcorder isn't detected anymore. I've tried uninstalling anything related to 1394...but still with no avail. I also booted the computer in safe mode and uninstalled everything, but still no worky. Please help.......Superman is asking!

    Welcome to Windrivers Superman!

OK this is a standard problem go here and follow the instructions half way down the page

1394 devices may not enumerate This is your problem.

You can also try this one. I spent days chasing my tale over this microsoft fix I know it says panasonic, try it anyway. It worked for a panasonic camera of a completely different model for me.

Have you changed your video card since you last tried your camera?

    NooNoo,

I tried your links with no avail. I have not changed video cards (Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440) since the last time. Everything has been the same, except that for those windows updates here and there. The last time I used my camcorder was sometime in October, and now, I decided to use it again, and now I can't seem to get my computer to recognize the camcorder. The same firewire card, firewire cord, is still being used. I went thru regedit and followed the instructions, no files were updated and it still gave me "data invalid" error. I download thoses patches with no success. What should i do? I was thinking about formatting my harddrive and start from scratch, and maybe not do the windows update as frequently. Right now, I have xp sp1 and almost of the major updates....I don't know what else to do. I know that the 1394 is working fine, I have software that came with the JVC.....i just dont know what else to do. Help MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

    Thanks

data invalid error still? Did you set the permissions as shown? Did you try loggin as Administrator?

Windows updates are VERY important. Don 't be tempted to ignore them because one thing has gone phut. As I said, I spent a few days trying to sort this out.

The "data invalid" message is most important to solve. Please try this again, this time in safe mode (press f8 just before windows starts) and login into safe mode as Administrator.

I think the permissions problem is stopping the other things happening.

Let xp detect it again. Thing is it doesn't need a driver as such. But the capture software may or may not be helping this issue.

XP is obviously trying to install it and getting denied access to the registry where it must write.

When you went through the permission process, had the permissions reverted? Was there anything to change?

When I check on the "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects"...I get this message "This will remove expliciitly defined permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions to those child objects. Only inheritable permissions propagated from PCI will take effect. Do you wish to continue? Yes...No" ....So, I click "yes".....and I press OK, in which I exit out of regedit. I also notice that when I go back into regedit, the check mark is no longer checked on the "replace permission" box....now, is that a problem?

That is correct, and is fine. What I don't get is why it doesn't work. Unless the key you are resetting the permission on is the wrong key, or is duplicated elsewhere. Exactly which key are you setting permissions on? Right click on the key, copy key name and paste it in here.

The registry key you right click on to select permission.... The folders in the registry are called keys. The 5 main folders of the registry are called hives.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\P CI

OK, so you are in the right place, does the permission you set revert when you check again?

Using the Edit on the toolbar, click find enter 61833 click find next. Does this appear in the registry anywhere? If so, under which key?

It does revert back....the check is gone from the box. After I did the search it came up with this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\C6061883FCA5ECF4BADF30D97B327002

This might be the key its actually whining about. Export it (right click, export) then delete it. See what effect that has.

Also, did you continue to search through the registry? There is usually more than one entry .

Several control sets? Current, 001 and 002 are normal, so it can do its clever "last known good" bit. More than that and I would wonder whats happened.
