Trouble getting past windows LOGO
A friend brought hisi pc,[in Town for the Easter] for a look.Getting a blue screen with error page fault, corrup registry and the ## and could not go in windows by any means,This is what I tried, the repair option, safe mode, swaped memory chip for a good one, still the same error.
Reistalled Windows by deleting the windows folder kept it fat 32,This time no error but wold get to the Window Logo and wait for a couple of seconds and restart.
1: Well this time I reinstal windows by deleted the partition and converted to NTFS.
Everything went fine the drivers Via 4-1 the updates for windows the new programs.
Well he lives 4 Hours drive, gets home and call's me and says the PC will boot up to the Windows logo and reboot No errors but wont go into windows. What can I do to help him, I created a back up image of the HD and can be restored. But I'm afraid it might be somenthing else and the restore might not help.

Well first off RiverRat i would assume this is an Epox 8K7A not an AK7A
Now that has a hybird chipset which is Via/Amd
It may require the AMD chipset AMD driver pack 1.30 to run along side of the Via drivers
It sounds to me like its hanging on a pice of hardware though. SO
I would shut off all onboard stuff like USB and Sound and
pull all cards except the video and then try a boot and see if it can get to windows that way

I stand corrected its 8K7A MB.
I recall installing the latest Drivers from EPOX-Miniport AGP driver 4-1 Via and the Sound driver but not The Amd driver Pack 1.30; is this pack available @ AMD site?.if not where can I download it?
I'll see if he can boot in safe Mode to install the driver.

I went to AMD to look for the Miniport 1.30 to download it,and according to the
instructions Windows Xp does not need this driver, only NT, 2000 win 98+95 unless I guess somenthing else could be an issue here.
How about the PS, can it be going bad? this system had been runnig for about a year in this case,
