Program to organize files on harddrive?

There is a program called Clonemaster. You can get for free on CNET. Use it manually, in other words, don't trust the machine to eliminate the duplicate files automatically. Eliminate all the duplicate files only if you are sure.

AS to old files, you can also download a free trial version of the Uninstaller by McAFee. This program will tell you which programs you haven't used in the last six months.

Is there a utility that would work automatically? Have tried Norton Systemworks, but it doesn't help with that.

I'm not aware of one, but even if it DID exist I still wouldn't trust it. I once tried something similiar with McAfee Uninstaller, deleting all the 'greens' in a color pattern (marked safe to delete) .......

My machine didn't function after that....

Err but the thread title is a bit mis-leading .. if we are wanting rid of 'duplicate & spurious' - then doing/getting the above on a new install is the way to give a 'clean minimum install'

But for any 'already messed up system' there's no substitute nor more reliable method than explorer & your brain .. or FDisk !

Due to the complexity & potential pitfalls of this I wouldn't trust ANY s/w to do it for me, it requires 'intelligent decisions', which s/w ain't so smart with .. back up what you do want & restore it to a clean install ..
