    Angry Pavilion 8760c Video driver

I aquired a Pavilion 8760c computer and wanted to start fresh. I used the recovery
disks and reformated and reloaded the operating system (win98 2ed). I found that
I could not get past the registration process. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts
to get help from HP I gave up.
I reformated again, and loaded the operating system from a stand-alone disk. The
driver for the video "card" could not be found by the win98 install process, giving me
    VGA only.
I used the recovery disk a second time, with out reformat, and was able to get by
the registration process. It loaded the HP software that came with the machine.
I attempted to use disk 3 to recover the remaining applications and the video driver.
    but to no avail.

Question: Does anyone know the manufacturer of the video driver chip and where I
    might find drivers for it?

The sound card and other things appear to be working.

    Don Hi alpha_surfer...Welcome to WinDrivers!

Thank you for the reply. I have sorted through much of the recommended material but appreciate it being brough to my attention.

In reviewing the material, the most likely solution appears to be the BIOS upgrade as it makes direct reference to the APG driver which is the one that the recovery disk trys to install.

I will up grade the BIOS and get back to you.

    From HPs Website

According to www.hp.com the video card appears to be an onboard VIA graphics chip. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...5813#P101_1479

You may be able to download an appropriate driver from VIA's Webpage http://www.via.com.tw. Just be sure which chipset you have. I think the VIA 694x Chipset is called the VIA Apollo Pro133A http://www.via.com.tw/en/apollo/p133a.jsp

Maybe that will shed some light on your problem

Well if this is so (& it seems perfectly reasonable to me & Don said so too ) then you'll also want the Via 4-in-1 chipset patch, which they also refer to as 'hyperion drivers' which can be found @ ViaArena - these want applying first ! (if the chipset interpretation by windows is 'amiss' then it can cause you loads of bother).
