Depends on the bank, they can't always move you from MC to Visa or vice versa, depends on what their membership and whether or not they pay fees to both companies. Your smaller institutions will alot of times choose one or the others due to the fees they pay for membership. (company I work for deals in EFT services, driving ATM terminals and helping small community banks offer the debit card/atm card services by doing the processing for them)

And if you treat cards as you would treat cash and you pay the balances IN FULL EACH MONTH, the APR doesn't even matter as there is no finance charge.
That's what we do. I've got over 100K miles now in the 5 years I've had it but that includes a number of flights and some double and triple miles on special deals. Anyone tried to redeem skymiles from Delta? I haven't yet but heard it's a pain in the ***. I also pay off the balance monthly and have yet to pay an interest charge.

My dad goes through this at his business. he has to enforce a minimum order amount to use a charge card and even though he can technically accept american express he doesn't advertise it because the transaction fees are steep compared to the other cards.

If you talk to the bank about a minimum transaction fee they will tel you that you are not alowed to do that by contract. People still do it though and I don't blame them. We had issues with it at the pet shop i work at and we had to stop. It's 2% off the top and about $0.25 per transaction so someone spending only a dollar or two on a CC kind of screws us out of a proffit. We have had people charge $0.69 items and the sale cost us $$.

Assinine really, but what are you going to do?

or do like I do..and only use Cash to buy stuff. Unless I am shopping online, i use cash for everything..thay way I dont overspend. Ever week when my paycheck is deposited in the bank, I go to the atm and pull out enough cash for the week. If i dont have the cash, i dont buy something. it works very well
