video adapter problem? screen goes black playing games
Hi,
I have a laptop with Ati 9000 64mb. When I play a 3d game (like halo, painkilelr etc.) the first few minutes are fine, but then the screen blinks and after a few seconds it goes black and stays like that. I can press alt +tab to go back to windows and the screen is fine. Going back to the game screen is fine for about 10-15 seconds and then again blinks and goes black. The game is still responding and everything.
What could it be?
I reinstalled my system yesterday, installed all drivers, updates, direct x 9.0b etc.
It only happens in the games.
Thanks,

Have you checked for game patches? Which laptop is it? What version of the ATI drivers are you using?

I'm playing demo versions of these games...
The situation also occurs in Wolfestein ET.
My laptop is HP Compaq nx7000 and I'm using the drivers from their site (6.14.10.6404). I tried Ati Catalyst 4.2 an 4.4 before and, although they are newer, they didn't work.

I seem to remember a windows update patch for games that had a video bit to start... check in windows update under recommended updates. I am also moving this to the gaming forum since it is only a problem when gaming.
