    language change

I know there's a way to change the language display in XP, I've tried everything I found through either Microsoft or Google, but I can't seem to get this laptop to switch from Italian to English. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't think you can. You would need to load a localised version of Italian XP on the pc to get that.

That's the way I understand it.

Nothing to stop you loading apps in any language but once installed the OS remains whatever language it was installed in.

Why would you build an O.S. without the ability to change the language & regional settings for the user given their location & language preference?

Ronin did you try the advanced tab in regions and languages in the control panel?

You can change the regional settings as per Dusty's suggestion, just not the entire GUI language.

I guess it is a bit like buying a car in the UK and expecting to be able to swap the steering wheel to the other side when you use it in mainland Europe. It is a product sold for that region, hence it uses that regions "settings".

Why would you do lots of things the way Billy Boy does ? Because he has the undisputed market dominance to do whatever the hell he likes - that's why - Emr's reasoning I think though is only 1/2 right - there's a new 'feature' in w2k onwards ..

See this thread (at another place I use) Change the OS language - you need the 'multilingual user interface' & appropriate language packs - its an 'extra' - there must be a way though - how many languages are spoken in Europe !?! - lots anyway - so you must be able to get it somewhere ..

How can I acquire Windows MUI?
The Windows XP/2000 MUI is sold only through Volume Licensing programs such as the Microsoft Open License Program (MOLP / Open), Select, and Enterprise agreement (or with a new computer as an OEM version at customer request). It is not available through retail channels.
But surley they sell local language versions, in the non-english speaking bits of Europe, surley ?

That's interesting about the MUI option.

They do indeed sell localised versions in just about any language., I'm sure there is a list out there somewhere So far I have worked on machines in French, German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch and even Japanese.

I figured you'd have more experience of this than I ! (being 'foreign' & all ) , but its 'news' to you too is it ?

My understanding is that if you have a localised version you can go get the MUI & swap it to english & then back again to your local version, but you can't buy say an Italian version & then change that to Spanish & then to French etc etc - not designed to work that way - only to 'un-localise' it ?

I sub-contract on a field assignment program in Poland for a big finance company - he sends me all the errors in Polish & then English ('cos I don't speak Polish ! -infact I ain't too sure whether I'm even spelling it right ! ) but his copy can be switched from Polish to english & back again ..
