Error: Windows was unable to print the test page.
PC is running Win98 se. Printer is a Panasonic KX-P4410. I am using the Windows 98 driver for this printer, but keep getting this error message. I cannot print from any windows apps, but can print fine from DOS (rules out any problems with hardware). Looked in MSKB and made sure that the win.ini file is not read-only. I also tried installing the printer as "Generic/text only" & "HP LaserJet 4". The printer is connected to the parallel port & is configured in the BIOS as Bi-Directional. I have tried changing it to "ECP", "EPP", AND "SPP". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day.
PS -- I tried the printer on several other PC's with no trouble. I also tried an HP Deskjet on that PC with the same problem.

Go into safe mode and remove all previous printers installed whether in Printers or Add/Remove programs, especially the Generic/Text only. In Device Manager remove all instances of Parallel Ports. Reboot and enter bios setup and change LPT to standard (this is an old dot matrix, right?). Then reboot with the printer connected. Then install the driver and tell us what happens.

I've actually tried that already (boot to safe mode & remove all Printer software, parallel ports, printers, etc.) & try to reinstall. This is actually an ANCIENT laser. It seems like a windows issue, possibly a spooling problem, but I've even tried printing directly to the printer and not using spooling. The only other thing I noticed was that the system resources on bootup were about 33%. I disabled alot of garbage from startup in msconfig (AOL, Soundmax, zip drive, etc.). Now the resources are around 65%. I've also scanned for viruses with updates virus defs & removed all adware & spyware. This system was just given a fresh reload about 3 weeks ago. Thanks.

Even 65% is rather low: keep working on that one. Have you tried HP LaserJet III emulation as stated here: http://www.panasonic.com/business/of...bw/kxp4440.pdf
Do you get any kind of error message printing from say Notepad? Does the printer icon show up in the task tray?

When trying to print from wordpad or notepad, there is no error, but the job doesn't seem to get to the print queue. I tried opening the queue and sending the job to see if it comes up, but it never appears in the print queue. I have tried using HP Laser Jet drivers for LJ II, LJ III, and LJ 4. I haven't taken notice as to whether or not the printer icon appears in the taskbar. I'll check that next. Thanks.
