Disabled Graphics Processors=Ahhhh Black Screen of Death

Hello All

My problem is I just got an old Nvidia Verto Graphics card(PCI)
Cracked open my computer slapped it into my Pci port and booted up,it began working right away,I found it rather difficult to find a diff. between my desktop before and my desktop now(probably not the best test

)so I switched back to my original processor(to compare

) using Properties/Display/Advanced/Video Adapter,which gave me the option to not use Verto(This gets fun

)So I chose not to use Verto,now its running on S3 (my internal Vid Processer)looked the same so I was cotent I the searched for a way to reactivate Verto,to no avail,so I disabled S3(with the thought that it would just cycle back to Verto)It then hopped to virtual memory,which I then promptly deactivated.(It gets Better

!!)Now my computer is not using any form of Vid Processing(preventing me from getting to my desktop

to reenable S3)I have tried all of the F8 options(when I boot in test mode it displays many lines of text the last of wich is mup.sys right before attempting to load D346bus.sys)I have tried pulling out the Verto putting it back in changing the monitor cable(six ways till sunday)at my wits end I bought a GeForce FX 5200(AGP)Slapped it into my AGP port in hopes that it would initialize like the Verto first did,AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

no.I have talked to so many useless tech support lines that I can almost speak Bangladeshy(and yet I still cant understand them

)I am seriously at my wits end,if anyone has an answer or advice or if you need more details please feel free to ask.Thanks for any help you can give.

Have you tried to see if you can disable the onboard video from the BIOS and then use the PCI?

Or seen if you can switch the bios to the AGP card? Can you see anything in safe mode? You have some video working or your computer wouldn't boot at all. So it is probably a bios setting or device driver.

Ive talked to a number of different people about how to get into my BIOS settings from startup but they all gave different answers do you know the command,oh and I forgot to mention it has an Xp operating system? And thanks for the welcoming

It's probably either F1, F2 or DEL, you press it when the pc is first coming on (before windows).

Hmmm Ive just tried these and I dont appear to be able to access my BIOS settings

Hey y'all I wasn't able to access my BIOS settings (t'was part of the error) but I was able to use my system restore disk upon startup by holding down escape till the windows loading sreen(giving you a boot order menu)and choosing to boot the cd drive first
(Ie: this told it to load the system restore disk before loading the hard drive which would have just given me the black screen of death)this allowed me to activate a soft system restore which in turn activated windows virtual vid processors(and deleted the Nvidia drivers which might have been hanging me up)my guess is that deactivating windows virtual vid processors actually caused an error which was giving me the black screen of death.(not just lack of activated Vid processors) I'd like to give big ups to all
the awesome dudes who graced me with their words of wisdom

And I hope if you are having the same prob that this will help you out.

P.S:Just in case your "System Restore" pamphlet doesn't disclose enough details(mine did not

) a soft System Restore will leave your Data intact(Ie:Pictures,Muzak,Favorites etc..)but will erase any drivers that you have previously installed.And A full System Restore(Ie:the Borg)will assimilate everything back to the original factory settings so make backups often.
