Interesting... in my case, this problem seems to have fixed itself! I was able to login and read my mail all day yesterday at work. Fwiw, I'm in computer support, and I asked my co-workers if they had any problems logging in to their Yahoo Mail. A couple of them reported the same problem, and one said that he had some user trouble calls asking when Yahoo Mail was going to be fixed. Others responded that they weren't affected. So it's pretty well established that it only affects some accounts. If anybody figures out why this is occurring, I'd love to hear about it.

They probably have more than one server so take one server down for whatever reason, you get a bunch of mailboxes not working.

A thread at another forum talks about a very similar problem. In fact, it looks like the same problem (999 page not available error). Check this out:

I see that guy got it to work with another browser. I tried opera and netscape first thing but they didn't work. It's a dns issue for me. It still won't resolve and if I just goto www.yahoo.com and click on mail I get a page cannot be displayed error. login.yahoo.com works to get mail though... guess I'm going to look for another spam account though.

Its this causing it, when you go hit the 'front server', that doesn't do any work, it just bounces you somewhere in Yahoo's inards, image how many accounts these guys have got with all them free mail accounts, so they are gonna have loads of servers which'll need periodic maintenance, since its free, they'll just take down what they have to, when & for as long as it takes, in customer percentage terms this'll affect only a few, but since we are mostly techies here 'the problem' will be 'apparently magnified' as its the kind of thing a techie would take notice of
