[RESOLVED] Win98SE RESTART problem
HELP!!! Whilst installing WIN98Se, it appears to hang on the second restart. After a power off & on, it carries on and installs. Problem is, that any form of restart (start-shutdown-restart, software installs or config changes and even screen save!!) now hangs the machine (leaving the keyboard lights on!!)
I am running a P111 600EB with a 36 Gig SCSI hd an 256Mb Ram on a Gigabyte board.
This problem has only happened since I put the SCSI disk in???
I have looked on the MS web site and there is a small section on this which suggests that I need to update vmcpd.vxd. I don't seem to have a copy of this, and neither does the MS web page!?!
Any one got any ideas
PS I have tried the Shutdown suplement - no help

The file your looking for is located in win98_54.cab. To extract the file you can use a command like this from the win98 subdirectory on the Windows CD-ROM....
extract win98-54.cab vmcpd.vxd /e /l c:\windows\system
Or extract the file to the needed location on you HD. You may also want to look into current drivers for you scsi card, and also check the tech support pages for the HD to make sure their are no issues pending w/98. One last thing I would do is pull cards out like the modem, sound, etc. and see if the problem persist(don't know if you have run the hardware before, also their may be a conflict with scsi card/hard drive.) Good luck to you.
