Resolved [RESOLVED] Win 98 and POS ProComp MB Nightmare!

Looking for any input I can get - we have had a customer who wanted a M/B installed in an eMachine with a Celeron 600. His only requirements were that it have an ISA slot, be Micro ATX and have Socket 370. Six boards later, we ended up with a ProComp BS61M-A that seems to fit all requirments. We assembled the machine, booted up and went straight to "error initializing device IOS, windows protection error, blah, blah". Here are the steps taken so far: flashed the board to version 1.3, disabled every device possible in CMOS and cranked memory settings way down, reinstalled 98 to a clean drive with no installed components, tried an ME upgrade, followed the steps listed in Microsoft's Knowledge Database, still the same error. It boots fine off of a drive with Win 95. One screwy thing, it sees the Celeron 600 as a P III 589 MHZ CPU. This is using an SIS 620 Chipset (yes, I know it is crap, but this is the only board we could find in stock that worked). Any ideas short of ordering another board?

It sounds like your voltage and FSB settings are a tad off. Also, when you setup the hard drive in CMOS, what DMA level are you running it at? Is it set to auto? The hard drive did not have any hard drive software for large disk access on it did it?
