Ecs K7s5a pro locking on boot
ok first thing
Im running a k7s5a that i baught maybe a year ago with
amd xp 2100 i brelive i know its a 2 gig processor any ways up tell now i have been runing 500 mgs of sd ram however this weekend i baught 2 1 gig sticks of ddr 2700/333 now when I try to boot it recognizez all of the hardware including the 2 gigs of ram but when it goes to start windows it frezzes up or runs extremmley slow ie ovewr 2 hrs to get system to boot. Seems to me like windows is ignoring the ram and loading in vram but why would it do that if the bios sees it the ram should be ok. Have tried reinstalling windows and got bluescreened half way through when i put the sd back in theres no problems..
any help would be apreciated

Hi there, and welcome to Windrivers.
You might start by doing the secnd Bios Revision at:
http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/k7s5a.htm
Check your mainboard manual to see if there is a jumper to set the RAM type or speed. But I suspect this BIOS Revision covers it. Make sure you get revision #02/10/01.
Hope this helps.

There are actually lots of different variations of this board, with lots of different BIOS updates! It's absolutely vital to get the correct update for your actual board.
Check here: http://www.ecs.com.tw/download/k7s5a.htm
Regardless of BIOS updates, these boards are only designed to support a MAXIMUM of 1gb RAM (according to the users manual which I have in front of me) so you'll need to leave one of your new sticks out
John
Now where did I leave my Lump Hammer?

Hmm..well, box not withstanding, I have the manual for that board here as well, and on page 6 (in the pdf version) it says quite clearly that it supports DDR up to 266mhz and maximum installed memory is 1 GB
