    Is there a program similar to winzip to read and modify cabinet files?

    Power Archiver does the job nicely. It's generaly on the PC Answers cover disc or get it from http://www.powerarchiver.com/

    Winzip can read and work with .cab files. Been part of winzip since like version 6 or so.

    do you need to install the cabview.dll/inf or does winzip handle it all?

    You know that you can use the extract command to open cab files? Though obviously it cant update and save them.

    This is a page on extract and it's switches.

    Yes Winzip 8 can handle CAB files directly. You dont need anything else. But one thing though. It can handle only the Microsoft defined CAB files only.

    At the DOS prompt, type "extract /?"
