Updating DMI for Tosh Satellite 5005-S504
I'm trying to restore a Toshiba Satellite 5005-S504 and am getting a "Wrong Machine" error. I suspect that the DMI data is incorrect as the motherboard has been replaced in the past. I have the utility to update the DMI data, but need some assistance inputting the correct info. What i have:
Model Name: Satellite 5005-S504
Version Number: Version 1.0
Serial Number: (the serial number)
Model Number: PS500U-00Y0LX
PCN/BND Number: ??
It's been a while since I did this, I'm not sure if I have the Model Name and Model Number in the right format (I'm still getting the "Wrong Machine" error), and I also don't have a clue what the PCN/BND Number is supposed to be. Anyone out there able to assist?

Don't worry about anything but model name. If it is a satellite 5005 series, just put in "Satellite 5005". That should be all that it needs.
I have the all the dmi entries needed for canadian models, but not american models. It should be the same though.

Hello,
I am in a similar situation to the person you replied to. The mother board on a Satellite 1900 was replaced under warranty by Toshiba and now the recovery disks will not work. It is a Canadian model, PS192C00824, purchased originally from am Office Place store.
I tried updating the DMI by both completely filling in all known data as well as just "SATELLITE 1900". It fails towards the end with the WRONG MACHINE error.
Do you have any other suggestions?
Thank you for help.

It's only available to Toshiba Authorized Service Providers. It's usually specific to each model, part of the Tests and Diagnostics utilities.

take it into any authorized service provider. They should set the dmi for you for free. If they want to charge you, call Toshiba and get a case number.

Am having the same problem. Did find the following from toshiba:
ACPI Flash BIOS Version 1.70 for Satellite 5005-S504 released by Toshiba on 7/16/02. Does anyone know if this will work to reset the DMI?

it shouldn't. You need Toshibas DMI updater utility. Only an authorized service provider or Toshiba themselves has it.

It's only available to Toshiba Authorized Service Providers, not end users. Go here
then click on "Service Centers" to find one near you.

Only available at Toshiba for $110 to fix a problem their bios upgrade (Toshiba lowered the cpu speed through the bios change to prevent the machine from overheating) caused. Anyone interested should visit KBLA.com and get in on the lawsuit against Toshiba. For me I refuse to provide Toshiba with any additional funds and will wait for them to pay me at the conclusion of the class action suit. This evening I successfully loaded LINUX and am up and running without touching the DMI.
