Ok, this one's really got me stumped. When I try to login here at windrivers it says thanks for logging in, then when it takes me back to the forum page, it says I'm not logged in. I've logged in 20 times, but it still says I'm not logged in. I tried registering over again, but when it does the little age verification thing it gives me an error and tells me to enable cookies.

This is a weekold install of win98se, to the best of my knowledge cookies are not disabled. I've tried resetting all my IE settings to default, I've upgraded IE from 5 to 5.5, still same thing...

I had to download netscape just to post this, I hate netscape so far, so I'd really like to go back to IE.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like your security zones are gimped. Set everything back to default by doing the following:

- In Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Options
- next go to the Security tab
- select the first zone (Internet) then press the default button to set that zone back to the default "factory" settings. Repeat for the other three zones. While you're here, look at the site list for each of the zones and make sure there isn't something in there that shouldn't. I put <a href="http://forums.windrivers.com" target="_blank">http://forums.windrivers.com</a> as a trusted site to make sure everything works.
- Next, go to the privacy tab and press the default button there, too. This will make sure cookies (which store your login info) will be created on your computer.

If that doesn't help, then go to the advanced tab and restore defaults there too.

If all that doesn't work, try repairing Internet Explorer by selecting it in Add/Remove programs.

If none of that works, I'm stumped.

Thanks Mac, but I've done all that already, except for trying to repair IE. I figured upgrading to 5.5 would solve any problems that existed with the previous version.

I'm stumped too. It's like I put some kind of policy on myself, only I haven't. Like I said, it's a fresh install, the only progs I have loaded are office 2000, adaptec EZ CD, a citrix client, copernic 2000, and now netscape. I'd like to again say that I dislike netscape very very much. It put an AOL icon on my desktop.

Ok, I'm a total dumb*ss. I broke down and searched the technet for cookies, here's what they had.

The registry was not updated correctly when you changed a cookies option in Internet Explorer.

Your computer's system date is set too far in the future. "

None of those seemed plausible in my situation, but when I read the last one, I thought "why the heck would that matter?" and just for kicks I checked my system date, and lo and behold, my date is set for 2016.

I don't recall seeing it as 2016 during the install, but it's possible I was smokin out of the wrong pack of cigarrettes that day. All that matters is that I'm back on IE.

I also noticed that installing netscape put AOL into my favorites and listed <a href="http://www.aol.com" target="_blank">www.aol.com</a> as a trusted site for internet explorer.

When this happened to me I simply entered Windrivers through a previous post I had bookmarked. Try this if you can. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
