Post Win 98 installation problem (CD-Rom)

I currently bought a new system (AMD Duron 800 mhz) and wanted to install win98 on it of course. So I took my old cd-rw drive out of my old cpu (it's a Memorex CD-RW Model CD-RW4224) and placed it into my new one. I went to install like I usually would with the boot disk and tried to get cd-rom support in ms dos. Once the support driver was loaded, I tried to access the cd rom drive. And what happend? I got a no read error.
I made sure it was hooked up properly and it was, I checked the memrorex website for updates and there were no updates or drivers for this cd rom drive. I put it back in the old hardrive also, and found it used mscdrom.inf driver, so it seemed that windows obviously recognized it, but the boot up disk did not. Anyone had this problem before and could give me some feedback? Thanks..

You may have to format/s the harddrive on the new computer, and load the Memorex DOS driver onto the C:, and reboot. (Like the old Win95 dayz). All that crap in config.sys and autoexec.bat has to be right too, but the DOS driver install should take care of all of that for you.

I would give that a shot, and if it works, don't turn back, or try to add the driver to the win98 disk. (me I wouldn't turn back!)
