[RESOLVED] WINS Problem, Please Advise
Alright, I have a computer on the Network with a Static TCP/IP address, and I can assign all the IP,Gateway, and DNS numbers, but it won't hold the WINS server. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but without the WINS server's IP address the computer won't surf the net. I had to format the PC, but before I did this wasn't a problem. Why won't my TCP/IP protocol hold it's settings?

No, we are not using a proxy, but without the proper WINS settings the machine will not get past our gateway. I suspect that it has something to do with our firewall.

Sometimes tcp/ip will lose settings when it is not properly installed. If in NT, remove the protocol, reboot, remove the adapter, reboot, then reverse. If Win 9X/ME, just remove the protocol, reboot, re-install.

Thanks for your help. I found out that, guess what, it's a known bug. After numerous other attempts it took a good format and re-install to make it work again. Sigh. Oh well, that machine only needs to survive another few weeks.
