    mov/qt to avi converter

Can anyone recommend a decent quicktime to avi format converter? Downloaded a video file which is in .mov/qt format and will only play in Quicktime (which i wont let near my computer). Would like to convert it into .avi or .mpeg.

    Try this:

Without registering the output has an annoying watermark...

    Good Luck,

I would give the Bink/Smacker RAD Tools a try (Freeware). The RAD Video tools is one of the few programs I have seen that can handle quicktime relatively well, it can convert to an AVI file.

It is not so good on converting the audio stream (results vary). I have primarily used RAD to convert (silent) movies taken by my digital camera. Most decent sound cards allow you to record from the "WAV" output, some SB cards have a "What U Hear" device that allows you to capture audio as well, then add the audio back to the AVI file with any of hundreds of utilities on the internet.

In addition, you might want to try out QuickTime Alternative
    http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm

It will handle all Quicktime files (except some of the streaming media) without you needing to install Quicktime. They have a RealAlternative as well.

Thanx for the suggestions, tried the RAD tools already, didnt work. Have another avi file now that wont play, GSpot tells me that a Dix3 codec is missing which I downloaded and installed but to no avail.

Will try the DMC. What do you recommend as the best 'all round' media player that can handle most file types?

for all codec needs go to the link http://mirror.edskes.com/ and download the codec pack, it even had QT and Real codecs w/o having to install the apps separately.
Try using TMPGenc (also on the codecs page) with a QT API (google) and then using Virtual Dub to convert it to AVI.

OKay, quick update. After downloading the codec pack it played the two avi files in a modified version of windows media player but still wouldnt touch the mov/qt one. I hate quicktime

I guess the file must be damaged somehow. Thanx for the help anyway.

I haven't done this in a long while, so do some research. Older software will still work, but might not be optimised to take advantage of more modern technology like multiple cores, etc
