Lightbulb Active Desktop in Win95

Hi All ,
I would like to know how do we install Active Desktop in Win95 without installing IE 4.0. The OSR 2 version of WIN95 and earlier ones does not have IE 4.0 by default.I have to install IE 4.0 for Active Desktop. The later versions of IE dont have the option to install Active Desktop. So I have to install IE 4.0 and then IE later versions.
Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Thanx in advance

You can try to upgrade to 5.0 but I am guessing you must a very speical need for the active desktop right??????? Some animated graphic perhaps or a backround theme? If not then don't bother as it will really slow your machine down. I get systems on my bench all the time and resources are running low and then Im shut down active desktop and Bam everthing is back to 90% from 65%.Big difference.Sorry to ramble, just my $.02

It would seem to me that you don't have any other choice. To get active desktop it does require 4, before 5. If all you are looking for is the quick launch bar, does anyone know if this single component is available?

Otherwise, load 98SE. It has 5 with active desktop already loaded. That saves a ton of time.

Might try a program called 98lite, not for sure if it has the feature your looking for but it sounds like something it might.

That's for Windows 98 users who want to blast away IE from the shell - REALLY speeds win98 up

I've been using it wor a while now and it ROCKS.

You can even revert to a Win95-type explorer.

Is 98lite sweet? I've never heard of this before. Does it keep the IE browser? Wow, I'll definately do that on my new machine.

You can build your own installation of Internet Explorer 5/5.5 using the IEAK (Internet Explorer Administrator Kit) Downloadable from Microsofts web site.

IEAK allows you to create a custom install of IE from components, one of these components is Active Desktop.

I haven't done this myself but from the documentation I understand you could sorta bolt on Active Desktop to a standard install of IE.

Hope this helps ya...
