    intermittent mouse failure

recently I have been getting a "USB device has mallfuntioned" error popping up.

This is my mouse which will just stop working, then start back again. (no set time interval)

System is virus/trojan free, scanned 6/17 at housecall.trendmicro.com

I have tried both the 1.1 usb and the 2.0 usb both on the machine and via hub.

I have tried 2 usb logitech mice: 1) Logitech ifeel 2) logitech wheel mouse

no other USB dvice has a problem.

Last video (AIW 7500) driver update was 4/21/04 ver. 6.14.10.6444

system recognizes the mouse(s) when I change them, they then inevitably fail

    ok ready for questions

More than likely its time for a new mouse , "you say 2 other mice work fine "
they do wear out, go bad and such .
oh and its 2 to 3 years old , sounds like its time .

these are both optical mice. the wheel mouse is less than a year old. worked fine for a day then started acting like the ifeel.

    Get a PS/2 mouse?

Actually...that may be a good idea. See if one works on it.

Go into safe mode, how many mouses are there in hidden devices or under mouse or HID?

What a ps/2 mouse produces "USB device has mallfuntioned" error ???

    I don't think so ...

If that errors popping up with a ps/2 mouse then you are looking at the wrong thing !

the ps2 stalls,as did the usb mice, although without the error.

ie: when play any fps I have the mouse set for run foward(mb2), fire(mb1) and look. periodically I will either continue to run, shoot or not be able to run, shoot, look.

This happens in CS, UT2004, Renegade to name a few. It also happens in IE, on the desktop, everything really.

Even as I finished that sentence....

Oh so now you actually start describing ALL of the symptoms now do you ? after various folks have ventured replies in the same vien ... (joking here before anyone bites my head off just incase that's not entirely clear!)

How many zillions of processes have you got running then ? do you have newest chipset patches applied - o/s all patched up ?

What about in safe mode can you get it doing it there ?

Now I 'get' the question it just sounds like 'busy' doing something else - which I guess is why you were muttering on about viruses & trojan free - not that 'housecall' is exactly 100% with that - so still possible ..

currently 25 processes running, pretty tight I think. Have I trimmed it to much perhaps.
    Here is a screenshot: http://iknow.thisisfresh.com/images/wdscreen1.jpg

I watched the cpu performance and it stayed at 2-4% for 10 mins and the mouse stalled 6 times no change in cpu or mem via taskman

updated Bios and Winxp. ( I rechecked today for updates)

    I don't mutter.

I was a bench tech for 4 yrs and I have never seen a system do this.

I will go play around in safe mood for an 1/2 hour or so and see if it happens
