    Resolved [RESOLVED] VxD Error on Shutdown Win98

    I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop that displays a VxD on shutdown. It only happens occasionally but it drives me crazy that I can't fix it.

    Here's what I've done so far:

    1) Made sure that the Exit Windows sound was turned off - it was.
    2) Ran MSCONFIG and turned on VGA Mode in the Advanced settings.
    3) Tests OK
    4) Reconfigured Display settings, still tests OK.
    5) Performed 10 shutdowns to make sure it was working. Fatal exception error
    appears on number 8!

    Error is as follows:
    "Fatal exception (01) has occurred at 0028:C00028C6 in VxD VMM(01) + 00018C6. The current application will be terminated."

    Result:
    The shutdown problem is still there. This is more of an annoyance at this point as it allows me to continue the shutdown process if I press a key.

    Which win98, the original or Second Edition??

    if its win98se, it could be the sutdown bug, ill try and find the link, but it on my other puter, so i cant get it now.

    I agree with the previous post...it deals with a video driver. I have seen it with Matrox cards and others. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card installed.

    could be a nic driver as well...are you on a network or stand alone?

    It is not connected to a network. It uses a dialup connection for Internet access.

    Nope, my error message is different from the one listed in this tech note. Also, I am not using a Matrox driver.
