I'm afraid that you are victime of a virus!
I recommand you to check your computer with an anti-virus prg such F-Prot or AVP under ms-dos.
Here's a way to solve your pb. Start your computer under ms-dos:
- Type cd\ then press enter
- Type edit exe.reg then press enter
- Copy the below lines to that new file:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command]
@="\"%1\" %*"
Put a blank line here
- Save and exit
- Type regedit /c exe.reg then press enter
Now, you have just to reboot your computer and from this stage, the pb is solved unless the virus is active.

Also, it might be loading in the system.ini under shell=explorer.exe dsdviwcr.exe
(If so, simply delete everthing after explorer.exe, then delete the file from a command prompt!)
Another way of getting into regedit when you are infected, is boot to a command prompt and rename regedit.exe to regedit.com, it will work fine within windows then, since it is not an exe file!

i'm not very familiar with regedit. when you said "put a blank line here", do you mean leave a blank line or type "put a blank line here".....d

I followed both your directions and found that it was loading from 2 places in the registry (was able to use regedit after renaming) and not from system.ini. Did a search on dsdviwcr.exe in the registry and found it here
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\ open\command
Took them out and everything's working again. Later went to the Mcafee site and searched for Navidad and found an undo.reg file that fixes the registry for you.
Thanks to all....d
