    Unhappy Acer, CDs, sound cards, and headaches!

    I was trying to reinstall an Acer Magic 22 soundcard to a mates PC(running Win95 on Pentium I, I think an acer mobo with bios v2.0 and an Acer CDrom),when the ability for the PC to detect either the cd or the soundcard disappeaared. The CD is not detected even in DOS now, including after reinstalling from the original driver disk!
    This leads me to think it is a setting in the bios, but I am clutching at straws as I do not understand the available settings well enough... Even just a url for somewhere to read and learn about bios settings would be helpful...

    I have just checked that all my ribbons are connected inside and I find that the CD is connected to the sound card not an IDE slot! I think now all I need is to know why the soundcard is not being detected!....

    I don't believe they will be detected by Windows , you have to install the software for the card to be recognised and used . You will need to get chip info , F.C.C. ID # , makers name or any other info on the card and then find the drivers for it.There are a number of these , Creative Labs , Mozart , Mega Industries are some of the ones I have seen/used.

    Unfortunately Rk.... I have the original disks for the card...An Acer Magic S22. they have been installed properly, I think it is something to do with the slot not being seen to have a card in it!... Is this IRQs (a url for a tutorial on such issues would help?). There is definately info passing thru the slot as the CD is ribboned thru the sound card (is that 'jumpered'?) and the CD is now working. (had to change an IDE setting in the soundcard's setup prog)...thnx

    Good , a step in the right direction . The cards like this that I am familiar with allower you to change IRQ from within their program , and also allowed setting up as a 16 bit Sound Blaster or a Windows Sound System , you picked your setting and then were able to test the sound from within the program , sort of a trial and error process.Sorry I can't be more specific and hope this helps.
