I just installed a new motherboard....HELP!!!!!!
I have installed a new motherboard in my computer. I have done this before without any problems. Usually it just redetects the motherboard system resources and loads them. After a few reboots you are up and running...but this time I installed an Abit Va6 motherboard and upon bootup, it takes FOREVER!!!! I mean hours!!! It will eventually boot, but something is wrong!! It will boot up just fine in safe mode, or if I use MSCONFIG and disable everything, but it won't boot in normal mode. I think it might be a driver conflict from the old motherboard. Is there a way to tell windows 98 SE to delete all the drives in the registry and redetect them?? Can anyone help?? Thanks

it is best to wipe and reload windows when you change motherboards....how many times have you changed motherboards with that installation of windows.......one time you might get windows running pretty stable, but not as good as before.
wipe it and reload it...that is the best option you have.
you can try going into safe mode and deleting every single driver in the device manager that it will let you delete, then restart windows, let it redetect eveything....then go back into safe mode once it has detected everything, delete any duplicated devices in the device manager. then boot back to normal and let it redetect what was deleted. if you still have problems then, you will have to wipe and reload like i sugggest below. windows will be buggy still, but if you can deal with it, then give this a try.

Delete the "Enum" key in the registry. This will wipe out all your drivers. Its in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
I would try this before the slash and burn.

I almost forgot. After deleting the enum key Windows may not start loading drivers so you can go into Control Panel and Detect Hardware to get everything started.
