Cannot run 16-bit Windows program
Asus PC-Probe 22301 will not install on my XP system.
Previous version un-installed using Add/Remove.
Error : "Cannot run 16-bit Windows program"
XP claims that it cannot find Setup.exe or one of it's components.
So..I tried to re-install the previous version and I get the same complaint.
Any thoughts?

ran sfc /scannow to no avail.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\FileSystem
< NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation = 0 >
< NtfsAllowExtendedCharacterIn8dot3Name = 0 >
reboot
download fresh copy of PC Probe
still cannot run PC Probe setup executable..same error

Yes...it's the 16-bit installer that won't run.
Downloaded the prog from the ASUS website...same as the link NooNoo provides.
No love in safe mode as well.

Some obscure reason for this, I am loathe to track down bit by bit.

I have the a7vn8x-e, tried to run setup.exe to install probe from my SATA hdd and it wouldnt let me (cant run 16-bit windows program).
but yet probe would intall fine from the cd that i got with the mobo, so i copied the newer probe to my IDE hdd and it ran fine.
however not being able to run it from my sata drive bugs me

Installing 16 bit software in WinXP
I had the same problem and here is the solution for asus pc probe.
The 16 bit installer used recognizes only 8.3 file names and 8 character directory names, so when you unzip the file make sure that you rename all directories on the path with no more than 8 character names and it should then install. File names in the archive are already 8.3 compliant.
Example: C:\probe\install instead of c:\asus probe\probe22301 for example.
