Post Cybermax PC and Win98 and problems

    Greetings all-
I have a system that the hard drive died in, so I replaced the drive, formatted, and put Win98 (Full) on it. This system is a Cybermax x686 system with a Microstar ms5146 motherboard. Drive is a Western Digital 28400 - 8.4GB.

Windows will not start in normal mode, only in safe mode. It locks up every time on the blue clouds screen in normal mode. I can go into safe mode and turn off 32 bit disk access, and it will boot normally, but I do not have CD-ROM access and cannot finish the Windows 98 installation (a few drivers left to install).

I figure this has something to do with the IDE controller drivers, but not sure. Cybermax is out of business, and I cannot find any info on this motherboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Al

    MS5146
Microstar's Website has a bios update that says it fixes win98 installation hang. I found microstar on the venerable and eminently indispensable Windrivers Website.

Also you need to install 98SE. Or better yet install 2000, I have that exect machine(found it in a closet when I moved into a new hous...hehe) and 9x OS's had issues, installing 2k fixed the issue.

    Thanks for the info-
I upgrade the BIOS to the latest available having high hopes that Win 98 would work, but it still locks up on startup. So, I put Win-95 back on it. Works fine (now).

any other suggestions? Would rather have Win98 on it (operational)

    Thank you,

    Al
