    'Scotty' Has Alzheimer's

My grandfather suffered through this disease before he died, and I hate to see anyone get it. Let alone Scotty.

On a side note, I didnt know Doohan was in WW2.

    I always liked Scottie,

Just when you thought the Enterprise was doomed, and their dilythium crystals were exhausted, and they were on impulse power only - Scottie always pulled them through.

He was a good solid character in Star Trek. I remember one of my favorite episodes when when Lt. Cmdr. Scott was being reprimanded by Kirk for fighting in a bar. Kirk was ready to forgive him when he thought the fight was about him. He was slightly 'less impressed' to find out that it was about the Enterprise....eh, eh.

    God Bless 'em

I went to a trek convention that James was at and he just hated the fans asking about the warp engines and whatnot. He went on a tirade about it (it was great). It was almost like that scene with Shatner on SNL where he's like "what the hell is wrong with yoou people?" He was awesome that day.

Looks like Alheimers isn't his only woe:Doohan also has suffered for some time with Parkinson's disease, diabetes and fibrosis due to chemical exposure during World War II and the D-Day invasion in France, Stevens said. With Parkinson's on top of it things are going to get really bad for the guy. I feel for him and his family.

I recall an interview where he mentions having been in contact with a lady who had written him a suicide note, and actively tryin to seek her out and not being able to. Had tears in his eyes when he mentioned it.

He then went on to explain that some time later a woman approached him during a convention and revealed herself to be that person, thanking him for his encouragement.

    Great man.

I keep hoping I'll run in to him sometime when I'm down in Redmond. THAT would be cool!

My Great-Grandmother had it. Sucks big time. She lived to be over eighty and so did my Great-Granfather. He died less than a year after her. It was almost like he kept going to make sure that she'd be OK, then went afterwards.

According to that article, he's 84 and has a 4-year-old child?????? Maybe I read it too fast.

This is really scary. On our company 'death watch' last week, somebody said Marlon Brando, and this week another guy said Scotty........
