Unhappy Problems adding a 2nd HDD to a VAIO

    Anyone,

Currently have a Sony Vaio 2.4GHz with Samsung 80G HDD (Not SCSI).

I've recently bought a Western Digital Caviar 40G HDD off EBAY and am trying to install it on my VAIO. Thing is, the drive is recognized in the BIOS, as well as in the Hardware manager in Windows XP. It states that H/W is working properly. So if it's working properly, why can't I see the drive in windows explorer. It is not selectable in any of the screens since it doesn't appear in any menu.

Kinda troubled here and would greatly appreciate any help. I am somewhat familiar with the interworkings of the PC, but if you could elaborate as much as possible with solutions, that would be even better.

    Thank you in advance.

Have you tried going to Control-Panel-Administrative Tools-Computer Management-Disk Management to format the drive and assign a drive letter?

Be careful that you select the correct drive before formatting; otherwise, you might end up formatting your main drive.

Did not know about this... just learned something here. Seems like it might be working. I've activated the HD (made it online), assigned a "letter" to the drive and am now formatting it. This might actually work. I'll reply when the formatting is complete.

    standy....
