    Hercules game Theater xp

I have a problem with my Hercules Game theater XP sound unit. I had been using it in an Asus A7V8X-X board with an AMD Barton 2800+ and 1 gig of ram with WindowS XP Pro SP1, and all was well. I recently upgraded to a Soyo Dragon Ultra Platinum with all the rest transferred from the Asus Board. The problem is this. When I install the drivers for the Game Theater (modified Crystal Fusion chip set) all is well. Everything works as it should. When I restart the system the next day, Windows comandeers the drivers and installs generic Crystal Fusion drivers, which don't work. I have the latest drivers from Willamont (6.9) and the uninstall utility which sometimes works to reinstall the drivers. I am registered with Willamont and have sent them an email describing the problem. They have not yet replied. Does anyone have a suggestion. I do music arranging and recording, and the standard size Midi Ports and the multiple RCA phono jacks on the breakout box are really nice. I could use the onboard audio, which I am told is not bad. I would, however have to rearrange some connections such as a MIDI connector on the stick Port (I have one of these), and a couple of Phono Jacks with an adaptor to connect to the Aux audio input port on the board. I also have a Midiman 2X2 Midi adaptor which is controling a couple of other Midi devices. They work fine. I am also considering a Turtle Beach card, but none of these include standard audio and MIDI connectors like the Game theater. None of the Creative cards use standard connectors, either, as they all use 1/8" stereo phone jacks for in and out. Any suggestions?
Sorry for the rather wordy post. Thanks

Did you install the motherboard drivers for the soyo before installing the sound and video?

That is afirmative, though I disabled the onboard Cmedia sound system and didn't install the Cmedia sound drivers. By the way, today on restart it found that the drivers were wrong and when requested, installed the correct drivers. i'd like to get this problem cleared up as I really like the Game theater.

    oops

I forgot to mention that this a Soyo KT600 dragon ultra Platinum. One nice thing is running the memory on a 200 MHZ buss (DDR400) while the cpu runs on a 166 MHZ buss. The older Asus KT400 couldn't do that.

Maybe xp is "seeing" the disabled sound - try enabling it and installing the drivers. XP will happily run two sets of sound.

I tried your suggestion with no success. The problem remained. I gave up and Installed the CMedia sound, which isn't half bad, by the way. I installed the game port cable and connected a midi adaptor. I also wired up a pair of Phono Jacks to the sound Aux input and installed them on an old sound card mount plate, along with the Game port connector. It's not what would have preferred, but it works. Thanks for the suggestions, though. Much appreciated.

cmedia, while not top of the shop, does a good basic job of sound. Glad you got it sorted
