Cant shut down my computer

I am running xp pro, I just reformated and when i got to shut down it tricks me, it will shut down and then just boot back up again, I am tierd of pulling the plug every night if any one can help that would be great.

The bootvis link in Grandad's third link is very useful, as is my link in Grandad's 2nd Link for tracking down specific problems.

We need more information about your motherboard to help you narrow things down.

What kind of machine is that? it is probably the power switch. Also, the BIOS could be misconfigured. I would suggest to get into the BIOS and load default settings. Another common cause is the modem. Pull it out and see what happens

I have a Asus A7n8x Delux, AMD XP 2400, Nvidia G Force FX 5200 128 ddr, A cool master pro case(think that is what it is called), A Maxtor 80 GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache, Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer, and 768 MB ddr Kingstons , I hope this helps if you need any more info just ask me.

(I turned off that auto restart thing in propertys now I get a blue error screen when it shuts down.)

What does the blue screen say? The error message tells you what the problem is... post the full message here please!

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to you computer.

If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen, restart you computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacture for driver updates, try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates Disable BIOS memory options such as shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer, press F8 to select advanced start up options, and then select safe mode.

Part or all of problem is nVida drivers or card .
I know some will look in to error code for you , I'll look some myself .

Because if you are...

Reinstalling the latest nForce2 drivers will not help resolve this AGP Bus Filter driver problem.

But.. rolling back from nv_agp.sys to the default MS driver might.

Here are the steps:

Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> System devices -> NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge -> Properties (right-click) -> Driver -> Driver Details (here you should see 2 drivers; nv_agp.SYS and pci.sys).

To rollback to the WinXP default driver, clilck OK to close the driver details window, then click Roll Back Driver from the Properties/Driver window. Windows will ask you for confirmation and then it should switch to the pci.sys.

I've seen the same problem mentioned in a A7N8X discussion forum elsewhere.

Also, you might want to get the latest BIOS for your board.

What was I suppost to do?, If I swap back to basic win XP drivers will my graphics still be as good?

Not much point in having good graphics if it only displays a blue screen....

Adept gave you instructions to roll back the driver to see if that is indeed the cause of the problem. Worrying about your fps and graphics quality is something that can be done when the root cause of the problem has been defined.
