    normal vs selective startup

under run, msconfig, general, does it make a difference if i check normal or selective startup? when i select selective then uncheck some icons in the "startup" tab i always get a messege on rebooting to check the "normal startup" tab.

Selective start up is designed to be used as a diagnostic... you deselect those items you suspect are causing a problem. When you are done checking, you uninstall the culprits and they should remove themselves from startup. At that point you would go back to normal startup.

I hope this clarifies things for you.
