Question Installing a Cd drive dos ,classic win98. error_.sys

Can enyone help? Im trying to install a Cd drive that came in a gateway. After I re-installed classic win98 I keep getting a startup error, they turn on but? I even tried two diffrent cd drives and the same message pops up. The error reads ,file is either missing or corrupt ,Error in your cong.sys ,and cdmke.sys

I went to Gateway.com and they diden't have a patch ,or an answer for me.Have checked the BIOS settings ,hardware install/uninstall ,win drivers, and troubleshooting not findin enything.

The Cdrom is detected in dos.bios and autoboot is (enabled).

    Boot log:
    #1. CdRom D:\ _______. (enabled)
    #2. Hardisc C:\ ______. (enabled)
    #3. Floppy A:\ ______. (enabled)
    #4. CdRom E:\ ______. (enabled)

The Cdrom Jumpers are set to slave_D:\ ,The drive E:\ is either/or.
Harddisc C:\ is set to Master ,A just is. As far as grey thickies
Gone thru 3 ,all seperate. not usein a bootdisc dont do notin.
Dos knows its Thear but .sys thinks boot files are missin?
Win sees it but? dos ,Cd is unusable.

    welcome to Windrivers josh

Could you please describe your installation steps, which ribbon cable you used, what else is on it, how you set the jumpers?

Does the bios detect the cdrom correctly?
Have you tried a new grey ribbon cable?

If you use a boot diskette, does the cdrom get installed in dos and is usable?

The errors you speak of are associated with windows 3.1 or dos... so unless you are loading the dos drivers in the autoexec.bat and config.sys for the cdrom, you should not be getting these messages at all.
