When I put that file into the profile directory it didn't give me any type of errors, so I assume it's working? Not many sites I visit have banner ads so it's hard to tell whether Firefox is removing them for me or if they just aren't there in the first place.

I'm leaving that file in place, so we'll go ahead and call it a success.

That's mildly irritating....have you tried going to bandwidthplace.com to see what kind of speed you're getting?

Give Firefox an entire week or two before you switch back and you will be hooked. Why just last night I forgot to turn off the bathroom light and when I woke up this morning Firefox had done it for me. Now that's a browser!

Ya I've tried many diff. speed tests , most of the time they are with in range .

Just ran some tests ;
PcPitStop = d/l - 549 , u/l -119
my cable's test server (4 tries) = 420 , 454 , 502 , 435

So actual d/l speed is with-in range of what they say , but its that delay I have many times (not all the time) that drives me nuts , that why I wish DSL would get run out this way soon , it may be alittle slower but at least for awhile it should work great and seem better . (I hope)

So the speed is fine once it gets goin, but it's slow to get goin? That's really weird...Try setting a full glass of water on top of your pc and when it slows down start mutting stuff under your breath.

If you are getting those speeds, and it is only webpages that are the problem, I would look to your firewall.

No firewalls .
Cable modem to 'D-Link 604' router to 2 PCs ,
when its doing that delay either PC act the same .

Right now its not bad .

I did a format-reinstall on mine about 1 1/2 weeks ago just see if it was mine screwed up from fixing the spyware stuff , but no change .

It used to be during a week day it might be slow or delays but it does it any time of the day or night now .

I really believe its the Cable Co cr*ppy equipment , but thier like 'either you want or you don't' , and thiers nothing else right now except dial-up .

I just get pO'ed because I'm paying '$40 US' a month for something thats not much better than dial-up half the time .

Have you taken the router out of the equation? That is, directly connected the pc - no router involved and see if that improves things?

Yes , tried it twice when things would be acting up and no change ,
and tried change'ing around net cable's (have 4) .

So have you requested help from the isp? If it is happening on two pc's when directly connected to the cable, then it has to be something to do with the modem or the cable.

Just a thought,.. but anyone who uses Windows (98,ME,XP,2K) is using Internet Explorer whether they like it or not. "Explorer" windows are embedded into the Windows OS. So whether it's Windows Explorer browsing content on your computer, Network Neighborhood browsing content on the LAN, Control Panel browsing control utilities, or Internet Explorer browsing web content,.. it's all Explorer windows. There is no escape. However,.. the idea of installing a Netscape, Firefox, Opera, etc. is cool. There are lots of people installing and using these apps IN ADDITION to Internet Explorer, but they will never be a replacement. Anyway,.. just thought I'd point that out.

Oh,.. I just thought of something else. It's just a web browser. All you do is look at web pages. So who cares which software I use to view web pages? Also,.. as long as i have to look at a web browser,.. I certainly don't want one with some gay name like "Firefox" with all it's gay cutesy graphics. I just want a plain vanilla web browser without all those extras. This is why I stopped using Netscape and went to IE in the first place and why I won't switch to anything else.

Good point, however, my homepage does not get hijacked from browsing my own files. I also have never aquired viruses from my own files. So while I may still be using IE for my local browsing, anything touching the outside world has Mozilla written all over it.

Not sure about XP but with win98 you could change that to use whatever browser you wanted for local browsing.

Shell=Firefox.exe I just wish I could find that spot to change it in XP.

I had been too lazy to setup autoupdate and hadn't checked for critical updates. I just assumed nothing would ever happen. I didn't take into consideration that someone else had setup this entire network and that things weren't done quite right the first time around. So I blame myself for allowing that to happen. But now with my system of NAV, AA6 and some daily server TLC, and with the fact that I am rebuilding all the servers to be safe and secure, I've got no worries now. IE is fine by me.

IE is ok, but if you like pr0n even a little bit, firefox is the only way to go.

I haven't been hijacked but I've fixed quite a few systems that had. A couple of them repeatedly. No hijacks from any of them since firefox. On one hand I'm losing out on easy money, on the other hand I just want these people to leave me alone with their stupid computer problems.

Mozilla is like training wheels for the innernet.
