Political Phone Survey
Last night I received an automated phone call wanting me to participate in a political survey that was all of two questions long. Instead of haning up like I normally would have, I decided what the heck and listened to the first question...
If today was election day, who would you vote for? Press 1 for John Kerry, press 2 for George Bush.
I pressed 2 and listened to the second question...
If you selected John Kerry, why did you choose him? Press 1 because you agree with his stance on current issues, press 2 because he is not George Bush.
Since I didn't select Kerry, I waited patiently to see if the survey would understand I didn't select Kerry and would either automatically hang up, or say something else... After the second question was repeated again, I just hung up...
Did the person designing this survey think that everyone would select Kerry? The second question should have had a third option I selected Bush...
After I hung up, I started wondering whose campaign was doing the survey... Anyone else ever get a phone survey like this??

I've got a better "conspiracy theory". During a discussion on troop levels in Iraq someone identified as a presidential political operative suggested that no whole units be brought back to the US where they could meet with journalists and express their opinions on the war. "We don't want any "Iraq Veterans against the War" demonstrations during the campaign. He went on to suggest that no National Guard units be brought home because then there would be pressure to let the men go home where military rules wouldn't apply and "we would have no control over them.
These suggestions were adopted.
How's that for a conspiracy? Or is it true?
