    Post Irq steering disabled?

I have a SIS chipset with Windows 98. In the device manager -> system devices -> PCI bus's properties under IRQ steering it says that the irq steering is disabled, problems with errors on the table.

Any ideas apart from updating the BIOS?

    Tanks

Unless you are having problems with the system, you may want to consider leaving it alone. Some devices will not work correctly with steering enabled. Specifically sound cards. In my case, I had to disable steering to run my aureal sound card with a voodoo3.

    Good Luck.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Unfortunately this problem is affecting my internal modem. It will not and has not successfully dialed out ever since this occurence.

Thanks again for the reply jfbowdy.

I'm assuming you have an internal PCI modem. Was it working before IRQ steering stopped working?

It is possible that your modem does not like sharing IRQs with other devices. If possible change the IRQ assignment in the BIOS or simply place the modem in a different PCI slot. This should cause the system to assign it a different IRQ, and will also cause the BIOS to refresh its table of resource assignments.

Also, make sure Plug 'n' Play OS is set to NO in the BIOS, and try selecting update ESCD data then reboot and try again.
