Panic Attack!
Anyone here get panic attacks? If so, what do you think brings them on? Are you taking any meds? Do they work?
I've been getting them lately, I had one this morning when I was at the doctors office getting a check up. They almost call 911 on me. I was fine after I got settled down, my blood pressure and heart beat went back to normal. I hate going to the doctor.

I think stress is a big factor. I don't get them but I've had a few friends that did. When you start getting stressed out just remember to take long deep breaths to help keep your heart rate down, or quit going to the doctor. They cause more problems than they fix sometimes.

I don't get them, but my wife does. It got to a point several years ago that she was basically cuffed by them. Then her Doctor (a Psychiatrist not a Family Doctor) put her on 40 mg a day of Paxil and it has helped immeasurably. She is now on 10 mg a day and hasn't suffered a bad episode in over 6 years.
As to your question of what brought them on hell just day to day life in general. Seriously my wife would sit there and think about things and the more she thought of them the worse she would get. She tried Bio-feedback which did help a little, but it wasn't the whole answer. She was on Xanax for awhile, but all it did was numb her. She has finally learned to sit back take a deep breath and deal with it. The Paxil has greatly helped with this.
My advice is if you or someone close to you is experiencing Panic Attacks get professional help. If you have a Family Doctor who is familiar with these disorders all the better if not pursue the proper help. It will make a huge difference.
I only post using 100% recycled electrons!!!
Stay on the bomb run, boys. I'm going to get them doors open if it hair lips everybody on Bear Creek.

Thanks for taking the time to write. I'm not cuffed by them....yet but it may lead to that. I "think" about things also and that is basically what starts it. I've been going to the psychiatrist also and did them Bio-feedback. I'm not taking any meds but just called a little bit ago to request some.
Thanks!

exercise helps too, if you are under a great deal of stress to cause the panic attacks.

My dad used to get them bad but has learned to control them.. A big trigger for him was driving on freeways (not sure why) so he has learned to avoid those kinds of situations.....He didn't want to go on meds so he went to some therapist that helped him to learn the signs and stop it before it got too bad. Luckily thats worked well for him.
I had a few when I was in the middle of a custody battle for my son, but since then I haven't had em really,....they are scary!
Almost 3 months ago I started having heart problems and at first I thought it was just one of those attacks....but that wasn't the case...still undergoing tests for that as the problems are all day every day..... and no meds are helping...they did at least rule out the panic attacks.
Failure is not an option -- its a "feature" of Windows.
Mama never told me geekhood was gonna be like this....

My Wife used to have them when travelling long distances. If we were going to catch a plane she would go nuts!
She saw a hypnotherapist who put her under and found out the reason for the panic attacks. It took almost 10 visits but eventually it all came out why she had a problem, and once you know the root of any problem it's not too hard to fix. Since then she's a different person, calmer in all situations. Has been for 8 or 9 years now. Worth every penny.
